From D.C. to Mexico… Spring 2013

Happy Patriots Day everyone! And Happy Marathon Monday for those of you in the Boston area!  Although I did not get today off from work, I decided to take the day myself, to do some catching up after my trip to D.C.  I went there to attend the American Association for Cancer Research conference to gain some knowledge as well as give a technical presentation about what I do at my work. The business side of the trip went well and so did the pleasure side!

I had the privilege of enjoying some amazing food – low country, southern comfort cuisine at Georgia Brown’s, family style Italian at Carmine’s and Spanish Tapas at La Tasca. I can honestly say that out of all the amazing food we had, my favorite, by far was the Dátiles con Tocino (Grilled bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with Cabrales cheese) at La Tasca. So good and something I plan to make myself, but not until after my trip to Mexico, because they will be completely detrimental to wearing a bathing suit!

Now that I am back from D.C., I can finally start to get excited about my trip to Cancun, Mexico!  One of my good friends from High School is getting married there, at the Secrets Maroma resort. There are 10 of us girls from Beverly, MA who have managed to stay in touch and be involved in all major occasions for over 15 years, which is so awesome. I am super excited to be able to join her down there for my first trip to Mexico!

Her bridal shower was yesterday and went so well. Of course it is a beach-themed wedding, with lovely blue colors. I helped with some of the decorations, including tissue paper pom-poms (made 100% by hand, not from the kit!) and these adorable mason jars I came up with last-minute. I also made the wedding favor tags, inspired by ideas from Etsy and Pinterest, using the cutest ocean-themed handmade rubber stamps from Brown Pigeon on Etsy. I used the stamps on the tops of the jars too!

I definitely have some more fun-filled weekends before the big trip, including the bachelorette party, at which part of the night will be spent enjoying a drag cabaret show!!

Before that though, I will be selling some of my creations along with supplies at a Destash Craft Fair this weekend. Here are the details:
